CHRISTUS Ochsner St. Patrick Hospital Podiatric Medicine and Surgical Residency Program welcomes foot and ankle specialist Cody Gaupel, DPM, as their newest resident. The program is a partnership with the Center for Orthopaedics. Dr. Gaupel will enter the three-year program in July.
Dr. Gaupel is from Gilbert, Arizona. He received an Associate of Science in Biological Sciences from Chandler-Gilbert Community College in Chandler, Arizona, and a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. He earned a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree from Midwestern University, Arizona School of Podiatric Medicine in Glendale, Arizona. Dr. Gaudel was very active in student organizations related to his field, holding leadership roles. These included the American Podiatric Medical Student Association, American College of Foot and Ankle Surgery, American College of Foot & Ankle Orthopedics and Medicine, and the American Physicians in Wound Healing.
The residency is a surgically oriented program in which Dr. Gaupel will focus on foot and ankle surgery and comprehensive podiatric medicine. He will receive training in CHRISTUS Ochsner St. Patrick’s operating room, CHRISTUS Ochsner Lake Area Hospital, CHRISTUS Imperial Calcasieu Surgical Center, and West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital. He will gain extensive direct patient care experience in the areas of wound care, diabetic care and podiatric research, and will receive podiatric and orthopedic training, including clinical and practice management in the hospital and office settings. Dr. Gaupel will also rotate through various specialties at CHRISTUS Ochsner St. Patrick Hospital, including emergency medicine, internal medicine, general surgery, pediatrics and radiology. Sports Medicine training, at both the collegiate and high school levels, will be a focus as well.
This residency is in partnership with the Center for Orthopaedics (CFO), the region’s largest musculoskeletal group, which also gives Dr. Gaupel the opportunity to work closely with experienced orthopaedic surgeons and specialists. He will also work within the group’s Sports Medicine Program, providing services to McNeese State University and 14 area high schools.
