Dr. Tyson Green’s Research Published in National Medical Journal

October 29, 2020

Tyson Green, DPM and foot and ankle surgeon with the Center for Orthopaedics, is the co-author of a research report published in the July issue of the Journal of Foot & Ankle Surgery, the official publication of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. The article, “Increased Risk of Nonunion and Charcot Arthropathy after Ankle Fracture in People with Diabetes,” reported results of an intensive study conducted by Dr. Green and six other podiatric surgeons in different practices across the country.

The study evaluated the frequency of complications after an ankle fracture in patients with and without diabetes, as well as risk factors for nonunion. The doctors conducted a retrospective study of 439 patients with ankle fractures, following them for one year or until the fracture healed. They found an increased risk of complications after an ankle fracture among patients with diabetes, dialysis, open fractures and those using steroids and beta blockers. This risk was most significant in patient with diabetes. The doctors concluded that further work is needed to identify areas for risk reduction.

Dr. Green serves on the board of the Louisiana Podiatric Medicine Association, on the legislative committee for the American Podiatric Medical Association and represents Louisiana at the House of Delegates in Washington, D.C. annually. He is a fellow in the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and serves on the board of directors of the American Professional Wound Care Association. Dr. Green is the program director for the CHRISTUS St. Patrick Ochsner Podiatric Medicine and Surgical Residency program. He lectures both nationally and internationally on various topics and is well-respected as a leader in his field.
